What is Finasteride?
Finasteride is a 4-azasteroid compound that appears as a white to off-white powder.A core pharmaceutical ingredient used clinically to treat androgen-related disorders in men.It is particularly effective for benign prostatic hyperplasia and male androgenetic alopecia.
This drug inhibits only DHT without affecting testosterone levels themselves; consequently, it causes minimal endocrine disruption and offers a favorable safety profile for long-term use.Buy Finasteride API, choose Highassay; contact customer service to request a free sample.

No. Finasteride is not recommended for use by women of childbearing age, whether in oral or topical formulations. Currently, it is a medicinal ingredient intended exclusively for use by adult men.
The 5 mg dose is for BPH, not hair loss. Taking a higher dose won’t work better for hair regrowth—it only increases the chance of side effects.
Both dutasteride and finasteride are used for male hair loss and BPH, but they differ in how they work, how strong they are, how fast they’re cleared from the body, their side effects, and what formulations are available.
The primary function of topical finasteride is to inhibit DHT production locally on the scalp, thereby promoting hair growth, while significantly reducing the systemic side effects (such as sexual dysfunction) potentially associated with oral medication.
Using them together yields the best results. Studies show that the improvement rate after one year of using finasteride alone is approximately 80.5%, and for minoxidil alone, it is about 59%; however, the efficacy rate reaches as high as 94% when the two are used in combination for a year.
Mechanism of action of finasteride
As a type II 5α-reductase inhibitor, finasteride competitively blocks the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), thereby reducing DHT levels in serum, the prostate, and scalp hair follicles.
- In the prostate, elevated DHT levels cause prostatic hyperplasia, which compresses the urethra and leads to symptoms such as urinary frequency and urgency.
- For hair follicles, excessively high levels of DHT cause miniaturization of the follicles on the scalp, leading to thinning hair and hair loss.
