Liraglutide is a long-acting GLP-1 analogue with 98% amino acid homology to human GLP-1. It differs from GLP-1 by substituting arginine for lysine at position 34. Unlike GLP-1, which is rapidly degraded by DPP-4, Liraglutide contains a fatty acid that binds to albumin, prolonging its half-life. Liraglutide stimulates insulin secretion in response to rising glucose levels, inhibits glucagon release, and delays gastric emptying due to its receptor activity.
